Abstract: An exuvia of Orthetrum ransonnetii (Brauer, 1865) is reported from the island of Fuerteventura for the first time. There-fore, the reproduction of this species on the island is confirmed and the known distribution area of the species is extended. Orthetrum ransonnetii (Brauer, 1865) is a dragonfly belonging to the family Libellulidae that is distributed in arid and hyperarid zones of the desert belt that includes Iran, Arabia and the central Sahara (Dumont, 1991); however, its expansion towards the northwest of Morocco (Juillerat & Monnerat, 2009; Boudot & De Knijf, 2012) and the Canary Islands (Mearns, 2018; Nowak & Weihrauch, 2021) has been confirmed. These sightings may be due to an increase in surveys, or they may represent a genuine expansion as a response to climate evolution, as occurred with the first known records of Orthetrum trinacria (Selys, 1841) upon its arrival in Fuerteventura in 2003 (M. Crewe in Boudot et al., 2009). Possibly, the species, the subject of this note, could colonize sub-desertic zones of southern and southeastern Iberia in the near future (Boudot et al., 2020). Males are characterized by having the body covered with a black opaque color, with the head and thorax of a light brown color, and the wings of a blue-green color.
